Tamar Herbert - Lung Recipient
As an energetic 24-year-old, Tamar Herbert was enjoying a career as a
laboratory technician. One day in June 1991, she felt light headed and
suddenly lost consciousness. At first, she was not too concerned
remembering that she had skipped lunch. That evening, in the parking lot
at the mall, she passed out a second time, and then it happened again
later in the week. Her co-workers rushed her to the emergency room where
she was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. The only cure for Tamar's
problem was a lung transplant.
Due to the shortage of organ donors, Tamar's wait was a lengthy one. A
year later a suitable matching lung became available and she was
transplanted at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in December 1992. Today, Tamar is
in good health and enjoys an active lifestyle which includes biking and
walking.
