Darius Vernor - Organ and Eye Donor

Darius was 18-months-old when his family moved into their new apartment. As his parents were unpacking boxes, Darius picked up a button that had been left behind in the carpeting by the previous tenant. Like many toddlers, Darius put the button in his mouth and subsequently choked. Darius died later at the hospital.

Darius' mother, Angela, was aware of the possibility of donation. When she was told by an MTS coordinator that Darius could be a donor, she felt that something positive could come from the loss of her son. She agreed to have his corneas, heart valves, and lungs donated. As a result, four lives were positively affected. Angela is a strong advocate of donation and routinely speaks about the benefits of donation to other donor families.
